Medjugorje Pilgrims take flight from City of Derry

23 April 2026

City of Derry Airport celebrated the take-off of Marian Pilgrimages’ 2026 summer programme to Medjugorje on Wednesday 22nd April, offering pilgrims across the Northwest with the opportunity to experience spiritual reflection and cultural exploration in one of the world’s most renowned pilgrimage destinations.

Passengers travelling on the first charter of the summer departed from City of Derry Airport to Mostar International Airport, making the short journey to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The pilgrimage programme is designed to accommodate first-time visitors and seasoned pilgrims, as well as anyone who may not necessarily be religious but are seeking a spiritual and healing break.

Steve Frazer, Managing Director at City of Derry Airport stated“We are thrilled to partner with Marian Pilgrimages, a long-standing pilgrimage expert, to offer direct travel to Medjugorje from the Gateway of the Northwest. This is the second year of our partnership, and the programme has already grown with additional charters taking flight on 29th April and 6th May. The programme reflects our commitment to connecting our local community with meaningful travel experiences close to the heart of many here in the Northwest.”

Mr Frazer added: “City of Derry Airport offers the perfect relaxing start for anyone travelling with less than 15 minutes from the carpark to the departure gate, no stairs or escalators across our single level Terminal, which is particularly beneficial for any elderly passengers departing on the pilgrimages, as well as cost savings on airport parking and lounge.”

This summer will also see the take-off of pilgrimages to Lourdes from City of Derry Airport with Joe Walsh Tours, increased services to Liverpool, Edinburgh and Birmingham with easyJet, additional flights to Manchester with Ryanair, and three times daily services to London Heathrow and services to Glasgow with Loganair. The highly anticipated new double daily Dublin service will also go on sale this summer, and 119 single-ticket international connections via London Heathrow are available to book now.
