New appointment to roles of PCSP Chair and Vice Chair

30 June 2026

Derry and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has confirmed the appointment of Alderman Darren Guy as its new Chair for 2026/27. He will be supported in the role by independent member, Beverly Simpson, who takes up the post of Vice Chair for the year ahead.

Alderman Guy brings with him extensive experience in local government and a strong track record of community engagement. His appointment comes at a pivotal time as the PCSP continues to strengthen collaboration between the police, local council, and statutory and community organisations to address key policing and safety priorities across the district.

"It's a privilege to be appointed Chair of Derry and Strabane PCSP," said Alderman Guy. "Keeping our communities safe takes everyone working together - police, council, statutory bodies and local groups alike. I'm looking forward to building on the PCSP's good work and making sure every part of our district has a say in shaping how we tackle the issues that matter most to them."

PCSP Manager Vanessa Russell welcomed the appointments, saying: "Alderman Darren Guy and Beverly Simpson bring real energy and commitment to these roles, and we couldn't be happier to have them leading the PCSP this year. Their experience will be a huge asset as we push forward on our priorities. Most importantly, we're confident they'll keep local voices firmly at the centre of everything the PCSP does."

The PCSP remains the key mechanism for consultation and engagement between police, elected representatives, and the wider community on policing and community safety matters. Under Alderman Guy's leadership, the PCSP will maintain its focus on evidence-based crime prevention strategies, building public confidence, and ensuring that policing remain responsive to local needs.

The appointments were confirmed at the recent PCSP meeting, during which members also outlined key priorities for the year ahead. These include tackling anti-social behaviour, ending violence against women and girls, and reducing crime and its impact on our local community.

PCSP elected members: Cllr John Boyle; Cllr Sandra Duffy; Alderman Darren Guy (Chair); Christopher Jackson; Alderman Keith Kerrigan; Cllr Fergal Leonard; Cllr Emma McGinley; Alderman Niree McMorris; Cllr Antaine Ó Fearghail; and Cllr Martin Reilly.

PCSP independent members: Marie Brown; Cathal Crumley; Karl Duncan; David Jackson; Patrick McGonagle; Karen McLaughlin; Beverly Simpson (Vice-Chair); Alison Wallace; and Linda Watson.
