SmartPayNI Northern Ireland Judo Open returns to the Foyle Arena

The NI Judo Open will return to the Foyle Arena on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of April, bringing two days of elite competition, international representation and a major showcase for judo across the region.The Northern Ireland Judo Federation is proud to welcome back SmartPayNI as a returning sponsor, continuing a valued partnership that has supported the event’s growth and rising profile.
This year’s Open is expected to attract a high number of international entries, joining strong contingents from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales and beyond.
The expanding international interest reflects the tournament’s reputation as one of the most welcoming and competitive events on the Judo calendar.
Russell Brown, Chairman of the Northern Ireland Judo Federation, highlighted the significance of both the event’s development and the continued support from SmartPayNI.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, welcomed news that the event will again return to the Council area.
“I’m delighted that our Council area will once again host this prestigious tournament and we are looking forward to welcoming the north’s Judo fraternity to the city,” he said.
“There is a particular emphasis on attracting overseas competitors to this year’s event who further enhances our reputation as a host of international level sports events.
“It also showcases the Foyle Arena as a state of the art leisure and events facility that can cater for events of this scale.”
Across the two days, spectators can expect a full programme of junior, senior, and masters’ categories, with contests running on multiple mats and medal ceremonies taking place throughout the event.
