The Highwaymen Live: A Tribute to Country Music Legends Coming to the Alley Theatre

20 August 2025

Step back into the golden era of country music this September as The Highwaymen Live storms into the Alley Theatre with an electrifying two-and-a-half-hour celebration of four of the genre’s most iconic figures — Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson on Saturday 13th September at 8pm.

Between 1985 and 1995, these trailblazing artists recorded three major label albums together as The Highwaymen, pioneering the outlaw country sound and leaving an indelible mark on music history. Now, their legendary hits are being brought back to life by a powerhouse nine-piece band featuring some of Ireland’s finest musicians, delivering a performance rich in cinematic visuals, explosive lighting, and pure musical authenticity.

The line-up includes:

  • Micheál McGarry as Johnny Cash – Returning to the role he has mastered for nearly two decades, McGarry captures the grit and soul of the ‘Man in Black’ with unforgettable charisma.
  • Michael McGarry (Mike Mack) as Waylon Jennings – A seasoned country music performer with a voice tailor-made for Waylon’s classic hits like Luckenbach Texas and Ramblin’ Man.
  • Aiden McCluskey as Willie Nelson – A meticulous performer who not only masters Nelson’s unique style but has even recreated his iconic guitar, Trigger, by hand.
  • David Cassidy as Kris Kristofferson – With a striking resemblance and a rich baritone, Cassidy delivers Kristofferson’s heartfelt storytelling with authenticity and warmth.

Supporting this all-star tribute are some of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians, including Grammy-nominated guitarist Jimmy Smyth, percussionist Tony Smyth, fiddle and harmonica virtuoso Charlie Arkins, pianist James Quinn, and bassist Brian Grant.

From soulful ballads to foot-stomping outlaw anthems, The Highwaymen Live promises a night of timeless music, heartfelt performances, and sheer entertainment. Whether you’re a lifelong country fan or new to the genre, this is one show you won’t want to miss.

Tickets are £27 available from the Alley Theatre website www.alley-theatre.com or call the Alley Theatre box office on 028 71 384444
