Weather continuing to impact Council services.

Derry City and Strabane District Council has advised that the current snow and ice weather conditions are continuing to have an impact on its services and that further impacts are expected over the coming days as the inclement weather conditions are set to continue. The Council has thanked the public for their continued patience and understanding and reassured them that all services will resume when it’s safe to do so.
🗑️ Household Bin Collections.
For residents, whose household bins are due to be collected on Tuesday, please be advised that we hope to have our crews operating, however this is weather dependent and subject to an early morning assessment. We do anticipate that there will be delays and it is likely that some areas may not be accessible due to road conditions. Where bin collections have been missed already this week, we will endeavour to return and collect them as soon as it is safe to do so.
🌹Cemeteries
All Council cemeteries remain will remain closed on Tuesday and will only reopen once it is safe to do so. Burials will continue to be prioritised.
♻️ Recycling Centres
Some recycling centres may experience delayed opening on Tuesday morning due to weather conditions. Please be patient as services resume when it is safe to do so.
🏠 Community Centres
Some community centres may be closed on Tuesday due to the weather. Users are advised to contact their local centre directly for the latest information.
🌳 Parks , playgrounds and open spaces
The public is advised to exercise extreme caution when using parks and open spaces and to stay updated with weather forecasts, particularly if travelling.
🏟️⚽Grass pitches and outdoor sports facilities
These will be closed as a result of the weather conditions and contact is being made with user groups.
✈️ City of Derry Airport – Passengers using the City of Derry Airport are urged to keep in contact with their airline directly – allow additional time for travelling and check the live flight information at www.cityofderryairport.com
A spokesperson for the Council said: “The health and safety of our staff and the public remain our top priority. While our teams will be working hard to maintain essential services, the current weather conditions mean some disruption is unavoidable. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding as we continue to monitor conditions and restore services as safely and quickly as possible.”
