Strathfoyle Greenway

Welcome to the webpage for Strathfoyle Greenway. Here you can find out information about the new greenway, including the latest news on its development and ways in which you can get involved.

Funding for this transformational project has been secured by Council from Department for Infrastructure, DAERA and Department for Communities.

What is Strathfoyle Greenway?

Strathfoyle Greenway will be a 2.7km greenway. The panoramic route will run from the Foyle Bridge to Stradowen Drive in Strathfoyle, with a link to Butlers Wharf. It will provide a beautiful car-free pathway for walkers and cyclists to enjoy as they make their way in and out of Derry City.

The extension to the Waterside Greenway will link Stradowen Drive to Derry city centre and the wider greenway network. It will also provide a commuting route to Foyle Port and Maydown.

Derry City and Strabane District Council, alongside community steering groups, have been working on this project since around 2012. Construction is due to commence early in 2022 and be completed in year. DfI has committed £1.32m while DC&SDC, DfC and DAERA have each pledged £440,000.

The £2.64m greenway is being developed by Derry and Strabane Council in partnership with the Depts. of Communities, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
