A series of three creative writing workshops with Kathy Donaghy exploring the humanitarian and environmental messaging in the work of Cecil Frances Alexander
'Each Bird sings' is an adapted quote from the second verse of 'All things bright and beautiful ', written by Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895).
On Wednesday evenings at 'Grass Roots' in Strabane, we will host an exciting series of three writing workshops with writer Kathy Donaghy. Dates are September 17th, 24th and October 1st from 7pm to 9pm.
The purpose of these workshops is to explore the ideas and messaging in Cecil Frances Alexander's works (hymns and poems). These relate to fostering a culture of care on a humanitarian and environmental level.
Participants are invites to use her works as a point of inspiration, bring these ideas forward into the present day in how they relate to each of us, in our own lives and in our wider society.
An evening event on Saturday November15th at The Old Rectory in Fahan, Co. Donegal, will give participants an opportunity to share their work, if they wish, as part of a poetry and spoken word recital.
The collated writings, with permissions from the authors, may find their way into some form of printed text, perhaps in physical form or online.
Our facilitator will be the amazing Kathy Donaghy, who is a freelance journalist and author based in Moville, Co. Donegal. Kathy's debut book, 'Finding my Wild' was very well received.
Reading this book brings a sense of the ebb and flow of the ocean, being guided in and out of time through a tide of human compassion emanating from Kathy's experiences and descriptions.
'Life had brought me to the edge of myself and here I was feeling like I was on the edge of the world.' After moving back to her homeplace on the Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal with her young family, journalist Kathy Donaghy's life changed in ways she never saw coming. This unflinching memoir looks back at a decade of love and loss, of mothering, identity and ultimately healing. An ode to friendship, home, and the extraordinary healing powers of immersing yourself in the natural world, especially the ocean.
