Everything is fragile. Floral still-lives reveal and magnify the process of decay, becoming a
metaphor for human life. These works pay homage to the still-life genre embraced by Dutch
and Flemish women painters during the 17th and 18th centuries. Considered a minor art at
the time, still-life allowed women artists to bypass the rigid societal barriers that restricted
them from practicing life drawing and figurative painting. Inhabiting the boundary between
photography and video, Bernardelli's works attempt to reimagine and reinterpret the
traditional still-life.
