Venue: Sainsbury's /The Quay Trail, 150 Strand Rd, Derry, Derry, BT48 8JE
Men of all ages are invited to walk, jog or run a flat 5k through Derry~Londonderry on Sunday 27 September, raising funds for the free specialist palliative care and counselling provided by Foyle Hospice.
The Foyle Hospice Male Walk / Run returns to Derry~Londonderry on Sunday 27th September 2026, and men of all ages are invited to take part in one of the North West's best-loved fundraising events.
The Male Walk/Run has become a fixture of the city's autumn calendar and the biggest men's event in the Foyle Hospice fundraising year. Thousands of fathers, sons, brothers, workmates and friends have laced up over the years, and every one of them has helped keep specialist palliative care free at the point of need for local families.
The event starts and finishes at Sainsbury's on the Strand Road, setting off at 11:30am. The route is a flat, family-friendly course of approximately 5k, taking in some of the city's most recognisable riverside landmarks. Walk it, jog it or run it — there is no pressure on pace and no time limit. Men of all ages and abilities are welcome, and participants under 14 must be accompanied by a designated adult at all times.
Everyone who signs up receives a commemorative event T-shirt to keep as a souvenir of the day.
Registration is open now. You can sign up online through the Foyle Hospice Enthuse page, or call into the Fundraising Centre at 61 Culmore Road, Derry~Londonderry, Monday to Friday.
Foyle Hospice has cared for patients and families across the North West for more than 40 years. Every registration and every pound raised goes towards the running costs of the hospice and the specialist palliative care and counselling services it provides, free of charge, to patients and families throughout the community. Less than 35% of the hospice's income comes from government sources, which means community fundraising events like this one are essential to keeping its doors open.
The Male Walk/Run is also a day for remembering. Many of those who take part do so in memory of someone they have lost, and the morning has become as much about community, conversation and shared memory as it is about the 5k itself. Whether you are walking for someone, walking with someone, or simply walking because your mates talked you into it, you will be very welcome on the start line.
