In Conversation with Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw on ' Race, Gender and Justice'
Date: 29 May 2026
Venue: Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Derry, County Derry, BT48 6DQ
The North West Migrants Forum is delighted to announce a very special public conversation with Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw on Friday 29th May 2026, from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at the Guildhall.
Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw is an internationally renowned legal scholar, civil rights advocate and one of the world's leading voices on race, gender and justice. She is internationally renowned for coining the term "intersectionality", a concept that has shaped global conversations on equality, discrimination, human rights and social justice.
As part of her UK and Europe tour for her newly released memoir BlackTalker, Professor Crenshaw will also speak about her life, work and the experiences that have shaped her scholarship and activism.
This will also be Professor Crenshaw's first visit to Northern Ireland. At a time when conversations on race, migration, gender, belonging and equality are increasingly urgent across Ireland, North and South, this event will create space for honest dialogue, learning and reflection.
The discussion will explore race equity, gender inequality, intersectionality, lived experience, policy and justice. It will also consider how communities, institutions and allies can respond meaningfully to racism, anti-immigrant sentiment and structural inequality, while better understanding how different forms of inequality overlap and shape people's lives.
The event is open to the public and warmly welcomes anyone interested in race, gender, justice, equality, heritage, community relations and inclusive policy-making.
Registration is essential, please scan the QR code on the poster.
