A glow-in-the-dark Halloween paint and sip at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin. Paint a neon piece under UV light, pick up a few words of Irish and come in costume for a prize. No experience or Irish needed. £25.
Halloween in Derry just got a wee bit brighter. Péint, Cúpla Focal agus Ól, the award-winning paint and sip with a bit of Irish thrown in, is back at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin for a one-night Blacklight Halloween Special.
When the lights go down and the UV lights come on, your canvas comes alive. You'll be guided step by step through a spooky neon painting that glows under blacklight. You'll head home with a piece you made yourself, and photos you'll actually want to post.
You don't need to be able to paint. You don't need to have any Irish either. That's the whole point. Péint, Cúpla Focal agus Ól is built for complete beginners on both fronts. Along the way you'll pick up a handful of easy, everyday Irish phrases in a relaxed, no-pressure setting. If you're already a Gaeilgeoir, you'll be right at home too. Everyone's welcome, whatever your level.
And it's Halloween, so dress up! There's a prize for the best costume on the night, so get creative.
The event is run by Tuathan, a Belfast-based Irish language practitioner and illustrator. Tuathan's work is about making Gaeilge feel open and welcoming to everyone, and about encouraging people to have a go creatively without worrying about being "good at art". Tuathan's Irish language work won Best Gaeilge Class or Project at the Best of the West awards.
It's a great night out with friends, a date with a difference, or a fun group outing for Halloween week. Grab a drink, have the craic, and leave with something that glows.
