Over the weekend, discover the story of St. Colmcille and the Irish book’s role in shaping European identity. Enjoy an optional guided walk to Derry’s oldest structure and explore the historic school attended by cultural and political icons like Seamus Heaney, John Hume, and Brian Friel.

Over the weekend you will hear the story of St Cholmcille and the history of the book in Ireland in the context of the formation of European identity.

There will be option of a guided walk to the substantial ruin of the oldest structure in the city, the base of a medieval round tower in the grounds of Lumen Christi College. This is also the school where Seamus Heaney boarded and was attended by John Hume, Seamus Deane, Brian Friel, Martin O’Neill, Jim Sharkey, Phil Coulter, Paul Brady, Eamon McCann – a generation of men who changed the cultural, literary and political landscape of Ireland.
