What is an ‘Age Friendly Place’?

People are now living longer than ever before. This presents us with opportunities to collaborate and work together to co-design our communities, with all partners and stakeholders, to create a place where older people can ‘live long, healthy and fulfilling lives’ (Outcome 4: Inclusive Strategic Growth Plan). For more information visit www.growderrystrabane.com.

Cities and communities all around the world are working towards becoming more age-friendly by working together to improve their physical and social environments to become better places in which to grow old.

Age Friendly Places are communities where age is not a barrier to living well and where the environment, activities and services, support and enable older people.  Age Friendly places focus on action at the local level that fosters the full participation of older people in community life and promotes positive, healthy and active ageing.

If you would like to become involved, or would like further information please contact the Age Friendly Co-ordinator for Derry City and Strabane District Council.
