Jacob Griffin
Jacob Griffin is a thirteen-year-old keen angler. Two years ago, his grandfather gave him a fly-tying vice and some thread and feathers to start tying his own flies.
After been shown a few basic techniques from his grandfather, he watched YouTube videos, and then spoke to staff at the Bridge, Gun and Tackle shop in Strabane, who shared some good tips.
Whether it’s Ballyheather trout fishery, local rivers, or the sea. If there’s a chance of a strike, that’s where you’ll find Jacob.
One day, he hopes to have his own fishing tackle shop, own a stretch of the River Finn, and go Fly fishing in Norway.
Meanwhile, he’ll be representing Ulster in the Under 18 Irish Fly Fishing Qualifier in the coming months. He loves tying the weighted Cascade because it’s colourful and he’s landed a few fish with it. But his secret weapon is one he calls the ‘Griffin Special’ and he’s not letting anyone know how he creates that.
