August Bank Holiday Service Arrangements

Derry City and Strabane District Council is advising the public of the following service arrangements for the August Bank Holiday on Monday 31 August 2026.

Bin Collections and Recycling Centres

  • Bin collections will operate as normal on Monday 31 August.
  • Residents are reminded to leave bins out for collection as usual.
  • All Recycling Centres will be open as normal.
  • The public is encouraged to continue using Blue and Brown bins correctly to help reduce waste over the holiday weekend.

Council Offices

  • Council offices at Strand Road, Derry and Derry Road, Strabane will be closed on Monday 31 August.
  • Offices will reopen on Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Registry Offices

  • Registry Offices in Derry and Strabane will be closed on Monday 31 August.
  • Services will resume on Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Visitor Attractions

  • Guildhall Derry will be open as normal.
  • Tower Museum will be open as normal.

Cemeteries

  • Council-owned cemeteries will remain open throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
  • Opening hours are 8.00am to 8.00pm daily.

Dog Warden Service

The Council's Out of Hours Service for ongoing dog attacks on persons or animals will remain available throughout the holiday period.

  • Telephone: 07734 128096
  • While there is no obligation to respond to other matters outside normal working hours, the Dog Warden may assess and respond to serious voicemails left on this number.

Parks and Greenways

  • All Council parks and greenways will be open throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
  • Visitors are encouraged to enjoy outdoor spaces responsibly and dispose of litter using the bins provided.

Leisure Services

  • All Council-owned Leisure Centres and Services will operate as normal on Monday 31st August
