The total cost of the Derg Active Project is approximately £6.5 million. In October 2021, Derry City and Strabane District Council secured £5,823,090 from the UK Government's Levelling Up Fund, with the remaining funds provided by the Council itself (10%). This project is one of three major initiatives in the district to benefit from the Levelling Up Fund, which allocated over £16 million to the Council area.
The Levelling Up Fund aims to support infrastructure projects that drive economic growth, improve quality of life, and restore pride in local communities. In Castlederg, the fund's objectives are realized through the creation of inclusive public spaces, enhanced recreational facilities, and improved connectivity.
