Working Together

Derry & Strabane Sustainability & Climate Commission

Climate action requires a whole system approach.  The Commission brings together organisations, communities, businesses and public bodies to accelerate the transition to resilience and net-zero by 2045 — the Commission works to coordinate action, building awareness, supporting green skills, sharing evidence and local success stories, and unlocking finance and investment.

Vision: To lead the way to a thriving, net-zero, climate-resilient City & District by 2045, enhancing quality of life, fostering inclusivity and protecting the environment for future generations.

Mission: To drive an equitable and just transition to a sustainable, net-zero future through collaboration, innovation, evidence-based decision-making and meaningful stakeholder engagement.

Six areas for action

  • Our Homes — warmer, healthier, affordable, energy-efficient.
  • Our Energy — a clean, secure, locally powered system.
  • Our Travel — greener, healthier, more sustainable choices.
  • Our Green Infrastructure & Land Use — protecting nature, building resilience.
  • Green Economy — sustainable business growth, innovation, green jobs.
  • Our Resources — a circular economy where resources are valued, reused and regenerated.

Together these six roadmaps drive coordinated action — embedding resilience, fairness and collaboration in everything the Commission delivers.

Emergency Planning & Cross Border Collaboration

Council works with stakeholders and agencies to be better prepared for climate risk, including through Community Resilience Plans. We also collaborate cross-border with Donegal County Council on the North West Climate Action Framework.
