Humanist Ceremonies

Humanist Ceremonies are conducted by a Humanist Celebrant.

If you are having a Humanist Ceremony you still need to give marriage notice to the Registrar’s Office in the District where your Ceremony is taking place.

Notice of Marriage

If you plan to have a Humanist Marriage Ceremony, the Marriage Notice Application Forms (GRO 446) with explanatory notes attached are available to download www.nidirect.gov.uk. or the office can post two forms to your home address, please email [email protected]

Each party to a Marriage must complete and sign a Marriage Notice Form each. The Humanist Celebrant will also sign one of the Notice Forms.

Marriage Notice can be submitted within the twelve month period prior to the date of your Marriage.  It is advised to submit at least 12 weeks before the date of your Marriage. The legal minimum Notice period is 28 days but this is not advised.

The parties should then submit the Marriage Notice Forms to the Registrar’s Office in the District where the marriage is taking place along with the relevant documents (as per explanatory notes attached to the Marriage Notice form) with the notice fee of £44 plus £8 for your Marriage Certificate.

At this time, we are requesting couples to email a copy or a photograph of their completed Marriage Notice forms along with copies of their documents to [email protected].  Then  a staff member will ring to collect your notice fee of £52 and arrange an appointment for you to visit prior to your Wedding Day to submit your original forms and documents for viewing and collect your Marriage Schedule.

Returning the Marriage Schedule

Please arrange to return/post the Marriage Schedule to the Registry Office within 3 working days.

Registration of your Marriage

Registration staff will register your Marriage and then issue your Marriage Certificate.  Additional copies are £8 each.
