Derry City and Strabane District Council is bringing forward proposals for the redevelopment of the Templemore Sports Complex, creating a modern regional leisure destination that will serve communities across Derry and the wider North West.
The proposed development will deliver a new state-of-the-art leisure centre alongside upgraded outdoor sports facilities, improved public spaces and enhanced pedestrian and cycle connections throughout the site. The new leisure centre will provide a diverse range of facilities for all ages and abilities, including a 50-metre competition swimming pool, leisure water attractions, teaching pool, a wellness spa, fitness suite, studios, squash courts, café and an 8-court sports hall.
Designed and constructed in accordance with Passivhaus principles, the development will prioritise exceptional energy efficiency, thermal performance, user comfort, and long-term operational sustainability. Beyond the building itself, the proposals include new outdoor pitches, athletics facilities, a changing and spectator pavilion, improved parking, and enhanced walking and cycling routes that strengthen connections to the existing and proposed Greenway network.
The redevelopment of Templemore represents a significant investment in the future of sport, recreation and community wellbeing, creating a welcoming, accessible and sustainable destination for residents, clubs, schools and visitors for generations to come.
