COUNCIL’S RESPONSIBILITIES

What is Council responsible for in relation to parking?

Council is responsible for 31 Off-Street car parks across the City and District.

What is Council not responsible for?

  • On-street parking  
  • Private Car Parks
  • Residential Car Parking
  • Retail Parks

What about parking on a Street/Road?

On-Street Parking is the responsibility of the Department for Infrastructure.

COUNCIL CAR PARKS

Car-Park Charging

Parking charges normally apply from Monday to Saturday.

For 2020 the non-charging days for pay and display car parks are:

  • Wednesday 1 January
  • Monday 13 April
  • Monday 13 July
  • Tuesday 14 July
  • Friday 25 December
  • Saturday 26 December

Please note, although parking charges do not apply on these dates, all other parking restrictions stay enforceable.

Can I park a vehicle overnight in a Council car park?

There is currently no provision for overnight parking.

What are the opening times of the car parks?

None of the car parks close, with the exception of the following:-

  • William Street Car Park, Derry/Londonderry  
  • Monday to Saturday: 07.30 – 22.00 hours
  • Sunday:  09.00 – 20.00 hours

Where can I park a motorhome/campervan?

The wheelbase of the must fit into the marked bays.  These bays are for parking only and not for long-term stay.

Who Carries out Parking Enforcement?

Parking enforcement is carried out by the Department for Infrastructure

There are designated spaces for Blue Badge holders in every car park.

Do Blue Badge holders have to pay for parking in Council car parks?

Yes, everyone has to pay in Pay & Display car parks.

CASHLESS PAYMENTS

Can I pay for my parking online?

The current provider is JustPark.  You can pay for your car parking by downloading the JustPark App on your phone and follow the easy steps for parking.  A charge of 8p transaction fee will be charged to the customer.

HOW TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A TRAFFIC ATTENDANT
