Be Part of Your Local Sports Forum

The Derry City and Strabane District Sports Forum is a collective of representatives from voluntary sports clubs across the District Council Area. Working in partnership with Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Forum plays a crucial role in the development and promotion of sport within the region.

Purpose and Role of the Forum
The Forum provides a vital platform for discussion on key issues affecting local sports clubs. It also offers support in essential areas such as:
  • Coach development
  • Equipment costs
  • Travel expenses for major competitions
  • Organisation of sporting events
Objectives
    • To promote and encourage active participation in sport and recreation in the district.
    • To raise the standard of sporting performance in the district.
    • To build an active network of sports and recreation groups in the district.
    • To provide a forum for co-operation, discussion and distribution of information on sport and recreation in the district.
    • To involve local groups to assist in the delivery of Council sports funding.
    • To recognise and celebrate annually the achievement of sports persons throughout the district.
The forum provides a platform for clubs to discuss key issues that affect them at grass roots level with a clear channel on communication open to council officers and officials who may be able to assist in addressing the issues raised.

A total of 21 representatives have been elected to the District Sports Forum, ensuring a strong voice for local clubs and their development needs.
