Reel in the Fun: Family Fun Activities
Bushcraft Demonstrations Workshops
A Family-Friendly Stone Age Experience
Join us for a fun, hands-on journey into the past and discover how people lived thousands of years ago led by Wild Walk Bushcrafts
Saturday 28th March
Tools, Fire & Fish
Watch as Stone Age tools are made from Irish flint using only stone and bone. See how sparks were used to light fires with natural materials, just like in prehistoric times.
Next, enjoy watching fish being prepared with the handmade tools and cooked slowly beside the campfire using an ancient method. When the food is ready, families can taste the fish, served with foraged roots, greens, and a fresh sorrel and sea buckthorn sauce.
All activities are relaxed demonstrations, with plenty of time to watch, listen, and ask questions.
Sunday 29 March 2026
Fire by Friction & Earth Cooking
Day two brings new skills and a new cooking method to discover.
See how early people made tools from flint and bone, then learn how fire can be made using a wooden bow drill — no matches needed!
Watch as eel is prepared, wrapped in leaves, and cooked slowly under the fire in the ground, just as it would have been long ago. When ready, tasting samples will be available, served with foraged roots, greens, and a tangy wild sauce.
Where Everything Comes From
All plants, materials, and food are sourced in Ireland. The fish and eel are supplied by Toome Eel Fishery, using traditional methods that connect back to Ireland’s earliest river communities.
