The Research & Development Expansion Project will invest in expanding the C-TRIC clinical research facility at the Altnagelvin Hospital site to support three key areas. The project will establish the first fully accredited, panel-based pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing service in Ireland. This will allow medicines to be better matched to a person’s genetic profile, supporting personalised prescribing, improving treatment effectiveness, reducing side effects, and helping patients manage long-term conditions more effectively. Investment will support an expansion in clinical trials of medications (Clinical Trial Investigations of Medicinal Products, CTIMPs), increasing patient access to new and innovative treatments. This will strengthen partnerships with local and international universities and the life and health sciences sector, enhance the Trust’s reputation as a research-active organisation, and attract further commercial investment.
