‘In recent years, the Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) area has been able to considerably reduce the amount of waste that it sends to landfill. In 2017/18, of the 77,707 tonnes of municipal waste generated within the DCSDC area 28% was converted into energy through an energy recovery process (21,475t); 46% (35,766t) was reused, recycled or composted and 23% of waste was sent to landfill (17,586t).
