Rural Needs Impact Assessments

Rural Needs Impact Assessments

Under the Rural Needs Act (Northern Ireland) 2016 Derry City and Strabane District Council has a duty to have due regard to the social and economic needs of people in rural areas when developing, adopting, implementing or revising policies, strategies and plans, and when designing and delivering public services.   Rural areas are defined by population and include everywhere within our boundaries, except for Derry City and Strabane town.
Council uses a Rural Needs Impact Assessment to fulfil its duty, contained within the Integrated Impact Assessment.

Council submits a Rural Needs Annual Monitoring Report to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
