Council is seeking to establish a list of businesses interested in trading at events managed by Derry City and Strabane District Council. For key events throughout the year, council has an open call for businesses to apply to trade in various locations. To stay up to date about trading opportunities, complete the form below.
Please be advised:

Where there is duplication of product offering, businesses registered within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area will be given priority.

Any event that will include alcohol will be managed through a separate process
-
Expression of interest to all trading opportunities may be subject to an application process.

Each event is different and may be subject to additional criteria such as:

Implementation of a sustainable/ service fee.

The following is the minimum requirement to trade at Derry City & Strabane Council Events:

Traders offering consumables must hold a 4* or above Food Hygiene rating (where applicable)

Unique / speciality product offering that is not directly competing with existing businesses within the event vicinity

Compliance with local and national laws and legislation. Including but not limited to:
-
supply of Safety Certificates (PAT Certificates, Gas Safety Certificates, Insurance, Fixed Electrical Certificate, Food Hygiene Rating, Risk Assessments, Product Safety Certificate. Etc.)

supply of Product Safety & Consumer Protection Compliance (EC Declaration of Conformity, UKNI Marking & Conforming Assessments, EU Cosmetic Product Notification Portal, CE and UNKI marking. Etc.)

Food Safety Legislation, such as, Food labelling & Allergen Information
-
Trading Standards
-
Street Trading legislation

Food offerings that aspire to meet the following criteria:

The use of local artisan produce (sourced within 50-mile radius of Guildhall) highlighting quality and provenance.

Seasonal & sustainable produced goods.

High quality goods

Craft offerings:

Quality product offering that’s handmade/ hand crafted

Carry no political messages
-

Use of sustainable/ Eco-Friendly practices:
-
No single use plastics (Council prefers the use of compostable items)

Use of reusable packaging

The following types of products are restricted and not permitted to be sold at Derry City and Strabane Council events:
-
Products that do not meet our trading criteria (unless an exception has been made)
-
Age restricted products, including fireworks and dangerous weapons, such as knives.

Merchandise that promotes, supports or glorifies hate crime or contravenes Council’s “Section 75 duties”, which require Council to have regard to the desirability of promoting good relations between persons of different religious belief, political opinion or racial group.

Pornographic materials and items containing mature content.
-
Items that promote, support, or glorify prescribed organisations.
-
Sale of items which, on the advice of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, may result in anti-social behaviour, public disorder or breach of the peace.

Products that carry political messages.

Product containing ivory and real animal fur.
-
Tobacco, drugs, drug paraphernalia, and medical drugs.
-
Dangerous items: hazardous materials, recalled items, and weapons or imitation weapons.

Illegal items, items promoting illegal activity, and highly regulated items.
-
Internationally regulated items, Mature content.
-
Violent items: items that promote, support, or glorify violence.
Alcohol provision at events will be manged through a separate process due to licencing and permissions required. Food products containing alcohol, such as baked goods are permitted.
Animal products Textiles made from legally allowed animal hair and pelts, e.g. wool and leather, are permitted to be sold. Live animals and products made from endangered or protected animal species are not permitted to be sold. Ivory products are not permitted to be sold.
Hate items We do not permit the sale of items that promote, support or glorify hatred towards people or otherwise demean people based upon: race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, disability, or sexual orientation. We also prohibit the sale of items that promote paramilitary organisations or contain sectarian, racist, homophobic, or otherwise hateful slurs or language.
This list is not exhaustive; Council reserves the right to ask traders to remove any items from their stall at any time if deemed as inappropriate.
