Labour Market Partnership

Labour Market Partnership (LMP) is a province-wide approach developed by the Department for Communities bringing together a range of interests to better address issues with jobs and training by combining resources and delivering a joined-up and flexible approach to employability support.

With a regional Labour Market Partnership being led by the Department for Communities and overseen through a cross-departmental and multi-agency approach, each of the 11 councils (including Derry City and Strabane District Council) have set up local LMPs and action plans tailored to meet the needs of each individual council area.

The Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey said: "Labour Market Partnerships will harness local knowledge and expertise and enable tailored action plans to be developed to address each local area's particular needs. A real benefit of this ground-up approach is that local knowledge can be used to meet the specific challenges faced. This will help tackle the complex and changing landscape of employability provision, both for those looking for work and for employers."

The Department’s LMPs will bring together all of those who have an interest in the labour market, i.e. Department for the Economy, local councils, employers, local voluntary and community sector, educational bodies and other interested government Departments including the Department of Health, Department of Education and Department of Justice.
