Over the next number of years Council in partnership with UU, WHSCT, NWRC, DfI, the NI Executive and UK Government will deliver a hugely ambitious capital programme with investment in excess of £300m. Part of this investment will be the delivery of new regeneration projects in Strabane Town and Derry’s Central Riverfront and Walled City. Derry Strabane City Deal & Inclusive Future Fund.
Contractors will be secured across the council area to deliver on these large capital projects through which there will be a requirement for a highly skilled local workforce.
Through the Construction Employment Academy, DSLMP are offering local residents a chance to obtain qualifications/training/licenses, with relevant skills and knowledge of the industry, to avail of up-and-coming employment opportunities.
Participants on this academy will receive wrap around support in:
- Obtaining the following training, qualifications and certificates:
- CSR Card
- Manual Handling
- Level 1 Foundation training in plant / machinery
- CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test
- Employability training
- Personal development
- Confidence building, communication, teamwork, resilience, conflict resolution, problem solving etc.
- Managing expectations, learning plan/career plan
- Employment support
- Personal presentation, resilience, job maintenance
- CV development, application form completion
- interview techniques, mock interviews, aptitude tests
- secure an interview (or placement) on completion of the academy
You are eligible for this programme if you:
- Are out of work and ready to take up employment.
- Exceptions will be considered for those who are:
- in a low paid/zero-hour contract
- Are of a working age and a resident of DCSDC
- Have no, or low qualifications
- Have the right to work in the UK (evidence must be provided to DSLMP)
- Show commitment to fully participating in the programme, complete all necessary paperwork (registration, evaluation, follow up forms)
- Have the time available to attend all necessary training without exception
- Are not participating in any other initiative that would exclude them from a DSLMP Programme (time, commitment, etc.)
